Students spent months preparing for the trip, as they fundraised, took part in cost and analysis budgeting, proposed activities and examined survey results, as well as applying and interviewing for jobs and leadership roles to carry out before and during the trip. While in Philadelphia, a trolley transported students and faculty to visit the United States Mint, The Liberty Bell, Dave and Busters, and Reading Market. They also volunteered at Habitat for Humanity and gave a donation.
Additional highlights of the trip included karaoke on the bus ride down, playing Guitar Hero at Dave and Busters, running up the steps to see the Rocky statue at The Philadelphia Museum of Art, and trying some original Philly Cheesesteaks.
Student comments about the trip detail important life-lessons they learned, "Sometimes you just have to try things that might be hard," said freshman Devon Hampton. Freshman Zach Levine shared, "We will all have challenges and problems in our lives, and we can work together to solve them." The fact that it rained on the trip also taught students that it is important to have a plan in place, but then you must also be flexible.
Students would like to thank Miss Brandt and Mr. Askins for obtaining the grant from the Ed Foundation and diligently planning the trip. They would also like to thank Dr. Miron for providing the bus for the trip. Additionally, students are grateful to the peer leaders for giving up their time to be with the group. Finally, students would like to thank Miss Rosie, Mrs. Basta, Mrs. Corlett, Mrs. Weiner, Mr. Arlington, and Mr. McGuinness for volunteering their time to chaperone the trip.
Overall, it was a fun trip for faculty and students alike, and a great learning opportunity for students.
Trip sounds like it was great. I really like what the students had to say especially "work together to solve them." That's a life lesson for all of us, facing problems together is a great idea. Thanks for providing some really good pictures. I know many of you had different jobs, I was there when you interviewed for them, and would really enjoy hearing about those experiences. Feel free to stop by my office or stop me in the cafe or hall to tell me about your personal experience. I am not sure if I am more jealous of the cheese steak or running up the stairs. If I ate a cheese steak I would need to run up the stairs.
ReplyDeleteThanks as always for sharing I was really looking forward to this blog.
Dr. Keenan

I'm so proud of you all for all of your hard work leading up to the trip, your efforts with your leadership roles, and your enthusiasm for giving back to the community during our Habitat for Humanity volunteering. The weather may not have been the best, but you didn't let it get in the way of any of our plans. Hello Room 370 ClubHouse,
ReplyDeleteYour hard work really paid off during this trip. Witnessing all the students take responsibility of their jobs, was an eye opener. You all stepped up to the plate to get your tasks done. The music on the bus is one of my favorite parts of the trip. I especially enjoyed watching and listening to both Danny and Chris perform their karaoke songs was terrific. Other things that stand out were guitar playing and singing by both Di'jon and Ethan. Hats off to the peer leaders that joined us on the trip. It remains a pleasure to work with you all.
Love,
Mrs. Basta
The trip sounded wonderful and I wish I could have gone with you! There is nothing better than a Philadelphia Cheese Steak -- except, two Cheese Steaks! There are a lot of stairs to run up to see the Rocky statue -- I'm pleased to hear you got to experience that. Does anyone know why the Liberty Bell is cracked?
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoyed Philadelphia! Thanks for sharing your excitement.

Working at Habitat for Humanity, Running up the Rocky Stairs and the Karaoke on the bus were definitely moments that stand out to me. The cheese steak on the way home was also a nice treat.
